Sample Progress Report

Student Name: Student C
Teacher: Aubrey
Period: Jul-Sep,2019
Total Classes: 27
Make up Classes: 4
Missed Classes: 11
Level Average: 4.66
Listening: 4.7
Hi, …..! This quarter, you showed more interest in improving your language skills. In spite of the difficulty, you still make sure that you are able to give good responses. Although, you still require repetition/rephrasing when statements and questions are spoken with speed and you are not yet familiar with colloquial expressions, what's great is that you show more confidence when making conversations because you are motivated to communicate better. However, due to your busy schedule we had to reduce the number of days for your classes to avoid postponements. Nevertheless, your comprehension and familiarity of various topics/subject matter is very beneficial for you. Pat on the back!^^Let's discuss the materials (movies/video/shows/programs) that you can use regularly to improve your listening skills.
Speaking: 4.49
I want to commend you for doing a great job this quarter. You seem to be more confident. You are showing more willingness to push yourself harder. You sound better. You are getting better on making conversations, sounding more pleasant and natural. On the other hand though, your responses were still minimal. It doesn't necessarily have to be lengthy but you should practice more in expounding on your ideas. But I am certain that with your perseverance and display of positive attitude towards learning is going to pay off. I know you can really work well on coherence and hesitations (pauses caused by lack of knowledge/skills/practice ; thinking too much about grammar (ironically speaking); or basically just feeling nervous to speak). Never let the fire in your heart go out.^^
Pronunciation: 4.79
Your effort to improve the way you pronounce words is commendable. You are open to corrections which is good. You are doing your best to do well in linking and blending sounds when you speak. Your intonation (Attitudinal and Grammatical) is improving day by day. In relation to accent, I think we just need to work on the usual sounds that Korean struggle with. Let's review the following sounds:
* /L/ sound
- cloud := /krawd/ >> /klawd/
- laptop := /raptop/ >> /laptop/
- long := /rong/ >> /long/

* /R/ sound
- remove := /limoov/ >> /rimoov/
- risky  := /liskee/ >> /riskee/

* - ED ending
- confused := /konfyoozd/
- progressed  := /progresed/ >>  /progrest/
- inclined := /inkLInid/ >>  /inkLInd/

* New Words
- beverage := /bevrij/
- dengue := /deng-gee/

Vocabulary: 4.8
What is good about reading topics from Breaking News English and other sources is that you are able to discover intermediate to advance vocabulary. You also get to see more expressions/idioms that are useful even in daily conversations. When you are asked to form sentences using the vocabulary learned, you always try your best to use it correctly. It is just that you don't regularly encounter the words reason why you have some difficulty using them in your sentences. I think reading more and watching or listening more to English materials can greatly help you recognize more expressions and words. I know you can do it!^^ To get you further to a higher level in your skills you can try to check the following:
TED- ED https://ed.ted.com/lessons?content_type=animations&direction=desc&sort=publish-date&user_by_click=student or CNN10 https://edition.cnn.com/cnn10

Use of Vocabulary and expressions:

- I don't have any new word >> I didn't find any new word.
- chinese people is number one for the space craft >> China is leading the space craft manufacturing.
- This configure dropped >> This figure dropped.

Structure: 4.49
You try to follow the correct arrangement of words, phrases, and clauses in your sentences. As much as possible, you make sure that verb tenses are used properly to express your thoughts. When using words you try to use them according to what part of speech it belongs to. I am absolutely certain you can improve by constant pratice. Just work further on the following common mistakes:
* Verb Tense
- it is lay the foundation for future space life >> it will lay the foundation for future space life
- The baby might be dead >> The baby could've died.

* Misuse of Parts of Speech
- someday we may be have to go to moon for our life. >> Someday we may be have to go to moon in order to live.
- Humans can live in the moon >> Humans can live on the moon.

* Missing Parts of Speech

Comments:
Hello,..... ! I know that you really pushed yourself this quarter. You are still challenged by many aspects in your communication skills. But you strived harder and your skills got better. You also did a great job in recognizing idioms. Your pronunciation is sounding more natural. You can absolutely perfect your skills in no time. I am positive you can achieve more next quarter. Congratulations on a job well done!^^

Sample Narrative Report (Drop Out)

Sample Narrative Report for students who dropped out during the Progress Report Week

NARRATIVE REPORT
Date: September 16, 2019
Name of Student:  Student D
Level: Mid Intermediate

OVERVIEW:
……. has always been a good student. She always tries harder and her improvement could be noticed by the way she delivers her responses.She can give correct answers to the comprehension questions. She is not shy to express herself at all times. She can carry a good conversation on topics she’s interested in though still commits grammar and pronunciation slips. She has gained more confidence now but has to still be encouraged to speak more. She's turning to her teenage years now so it can be noticed that her interests have changed as well. I am confident that if she’s more equipped, she can participate better in a debate class in no time.

HOMEWORK PLAN:
…… may still include vocabulary study in her free time so as to be more familiar with how words and expressions can be used correctly. Writing sentences using new words and expressions she’s learned will be a good habit. She can also watch English learning materials such as videos and movie clips to help her get more acquainted to native speakers. I hope she does her best in learning the language.
